We’re going to be pretty bold here and say, there is a perfect yoga class for everyone. It’s just a matter of finding it. This means finding the right style(s), the right teacher(s) at that moment in your life … p.s. yes this will change as your life/body/mind changes.
As yoga has become more mainstream there has been an explosion in the variety of styles and to choose from, which is great because this means our needs can really be catered for. This also means that it is MEGA confusing out there. We regularly get messages from people asking what style of class at We Are Wellness they might like, or might be suitable to their current situation.
Things to remember when choosing a class:
– All yoga classes will be beneficial in helping you be mindful. The act of concentrating on what your body and breath is doing through yoga postures is one of the easiest ways to learn mindfulness. In this sense even a strong challenging class can bring a sense of relaxation because you will have been 100% focussed at the job in hand.
– All yoga will help with injury prevention or speed recovery (yoga can’t stop you tripping on that paving slab) because it moves all the joints, improving range of motion, strength and the connection between the brain and body.
– Each teacher brings their own personality and approach to any particular yoga style. So where you might not have enjoyed an Ashtanga class with teacher A, you may love Ashtanga with teacher B. So our suggestion is to try different teachers not just styles.
– Any yoga or fitness class will bring you together with people also looking to improve the quality of their lives.
