Yin Yoga is a therapeutic yoga class, aimed at working on the deeper connective tissue and fascia of areas that encompass a joint (largely focused on the hips and spine). Floor based postures are held for 2-5 minutes, guided by slow breathing so that muscles relax and work starts to happen at a deeper level, creating space in the joints.

We stay for longer in posture than in most classes (mainly seated or supine) to connect with fascia tissue that binds and stabilizes the body. With focus on the hip area this can be particularly good energetically for the lower back, hips, sitting for meditation and also to balance daily life. Staying and letting go in postures can be very restorative to the nervous system so very good to combat stress or a busy mind. We will include breath work (pranayama) and meditation.
We often think so much about the superficial layers, toning and strengthening muscles and we forget about these other tissues within the body. However working on these tissues is vital if we are to create smooth, effortless movements for whatever sports we play or life we lead, and if we want healthy joints into our later life.
If you have a strong sports/ movement practice you really do need this class. This is the balance you need to be truly healthy.
It’s tough, you will learn how to be still, be focused on breath and how to listen to feelings, sensations and emotions. You will leave feeling calm and connected.
