The New Year is traditionally all about getting fit again after Christmas, getting healthy eating back on track and starting resolutions that are unrealistic and you will have given up on before January is up. January and February are typically when the winter blues kick in. Christmas and New Year’s parties are gone, it’s cold, dark and spring feels like it’s still a long way away. All in all, it’s a little depressing.
My approach to January and February is to focus on self-care and making lasting improvements physically and mentally – as I do every month of the year! January is not the time to start gruelling training regimes and set yourself huge goals. No doubt you’re feeling a bit groggy from overindulgence and your sleep routine has gone awry. You may hit the ground running but will you be able to keep it up during the long run in to summer? And right now, hung over on January 1st are you really going to be making the same positive decisions that are based on anything less than guilt and low self-esteem? Probably not. So, I propose that we take 2017 one month at a time.
January: get your sleep routine back; clear out some stuff to make room for your new Christmas gifts; gradually get your usual fitness regime back on track. No need to go all guns blazing- who are you competing with? If you’ve put on some weight over Christmas, so what? You enjoyed yourself didn’t you? And a bit of extra insulation at the coldest time of year is no bad thing.
February: for some people it’s the light at the end of the January tunnel but for many if Wednesday is hump-day then February is hump-month. SO, that’s where Go! Girl steps up! On February 4th the Go! Girl Workshop is back to provide you with a fun, non-judgmental space to get fit using low-impact high intensity Pilates to music. As if being in the beautiful and tranquil We Are Wellness mansion house wasn’t enough, this workshop is going to be an opportunity to look after number one (that’s you my friend!) with a post workout cuppa and chat, healthy snacks for sale and not forgetting pamper goody bags!
March onwards: hey, didn’t I say one month at a time? Isn’t that two already?
Join me for the Go! Girl Winter Pamper Party at We Are Wellness to get fit, have fun and leave feeling refreshed!
