Our 4 week beginners yoga course is a comprehensive introduction to yoga, during these 4 weeks you will be introduced to the basics of yoga to lay the foundations that will help you feel ready to jump into any class confidently or begin a home practice.
We have a maximum of 14 people in each class to ensure your get the care and attention that is needed from your yoga teacher. Each week is designed so that a new topic is covered (with a little refresher of the previous week) that builds your understanding and abilities in the right order.
Week 1: Yoga foundations, let’s begin at the beginning! Keeping everything simple we will begin with breath awareness and warming the body, before moving through some of the core postures such as downward dog. We will build strength in standing postures, and explore forward folds to find release in those muscles that often get weak and tight as we sit in our office chairs and cars or hunch over our laptops scrolling through Facebook! We will learn the building blocks of a sun salutation – something that you are likely to come across in most yoga classes.
Week 2: After revisiting the previous week we will learn some balancing postures such as tree, balancing postures are fantastic for strengthening as well as improving your balance and focus both physically and mentally. We will then move thorugh some of the warrior postures, which can create quite a lot of heat in the muscles, so we will counter balance with some cooling postures and relaxation.
Week 3: By now we will be feeling more confident in the basic postures and moving thorugh a sun saluation. We can then explore some postures that work on lengthening and strengthening the muscles of the legs and hips. We will also try out some simple backbends and twists.
Week 4: The final class will focus on piecing together all we have learnt so far, going over principles of safe alignment and breathing in all postures. Now you have the foundations we will explore how to progress in your practice both in future classes and at home, and will end with a well deserved guided relaxation!
