We are delighted that Jamie is joining the Wellness schedule with his popular Rocket Yoga class. This is an inclusive class where everyone is welcome. If you have some experience of ashtanga and or vinyasa flow you will be ready to practice stronger than you may have previously thought you could.
The Rocket practice is derived from ashtanga yoga and fuses primary and secondary series poses into an invigorating and challenging practice. Jamie is vey passionate that the Rocket practice remains true to alignment principles and the dynamic rhythm of it’s ashtanga origins while connecting mind, breath and body through Ujjayi (Breath technique) and Bandhas (Diaphragm engagement). The Rocket practice, fusing the primary and secondary series of ashtanga yoga ensures that the richly beneficial back bending poses of the secondary series are available to beginner and intermediate students from practice number one. In primary series ashtanga and vinyasa flow Jamie perceives a lack of back bending and an unbalanced emphasis on forward bending. In our everyday movement utility we are constantly forward bending so Jamie understands back bending in The Rocket practice is essential for addressing this imbalance.
Jamie’s Rocket teaching has a playful creativity, fluidly negotiating around the classic Rocket signature structure. Inversions are a signature that commonly represents the Rocket practice and Jamie’s teaching will support and encourage your evolution towards the practice of these, exciting and uplifting inversions, whether you are lifting one foot off the floor for the first time or refining an established practice. As a master teacher Jamie’s eye for technique is second to none and he is very generous offering hands on and individuated corrections tailored to your personal practice. If you are uncomfortable with hands on adjustments Jamie is perhaps not the best teacher for you.
