“When you reach your edge, soften. Soften until you slip through the constraints and can create a new rhythm, a new route, a new release. Water is soft yet powerful. Reach your edge, then soften.” Victoria Erickson
Our Yin Yoga & Nidra evenings are suitable to everyone and a perfect compliment to our often active and busy lives. Whether you are looking for a deep stretch or a chance to relax and take some time for yourselves, these workshops will leave you feeling calm, grounded and revitalised.
What is Yin?
Based on traditional Chinese medicine. Yin is the opposite of Yang, which is fast, bright, energetic and heating. Whilst Yin attributes are slow, dark and passive. Yin yoga is about finding stillness and cooling the body. Practicing Yin yoga brings balance to our lives to help maintain optimum health.
You will begin gently with a strong focus on the breath and a grounding, balancing meditation.
Taking time to set up floor based postures with props/support, each pose is held for between 3-5 mins. This allows the body to fully relax, let go and work on a deeper level, designed to release tightness and tension in the body.
Yin yoga is challenging as the chatter of the mind often takes over. You will be encouraged to find stillness by focusing on the breath and develop awareness of the body and sensations.
- Targets the deep connective tissue and fascia in the body to improve flexibility.
- Improves postural and skeleton alignment.
- Maintains mobility of the joints and improves circulation.
- Helps prevent injury caused by tension and tightness.
- Relieves tension and stress by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system (aids rest and digest).
- Balances our yin and yang qualities in the body and mind.
- Regulates the body’s energy (meridian) channels.
The session will end with a deep mediation or Yoga Nidra (also known as Yogic sleep!). You will be guided through a body scan meditation with breath awareness to create a state of stillness and calm. Benefits include calming the nervous system to reduce stress, softening tension in the body and promote deep rest and relaxation to improve sleep.
We will finish with some warming herbal tea and homemade organic chocolate to leave feeling fully nourished.
