The height of summer is approaching, a season of outward looking, fiery energy. It is full of light, sun, warmth, brightness and positivity. In the summer months we tend to increase our physical and social activities, using every opportunity to embrace the sunnier days and lighter evenings.
As we live in a very yang orientated world, if you’re anything like me, the days fill quickly with work (teaching yoga on top of my day job!), social events, my own yoga practice, exercise, travel… the list is endless. Before we know it there’s no time ‘scheduled’ in for rest and relaxation. Our focus tends to be heavily weighted on the doing, achieving, wanting and striving; all very Yang qualities.
It’s important to find balance (embrace the best of both worlds) before we burn out. Often we only slow down when health issues, illness or exhaustion forces us to. Tuning in and listening to our internal needs, rather than focusing on the external world gives us an opportunity to pre-empt this. So honor and recognise your natural energies.
Our Summer Yin Yoga Renewal Workshop will focus on a soothing, reflective Yin practice to balance the Yang of summer. We will focus on the heart and small intestine meridians (connected to the Fire Element) with heart openers, upper back and shoulder stretches.
Hope to see you there!
